La Ventana vs. La Paz: Comparing Life in Both
They are forty minutes apart by car, yet La Ventana and La Paz feel like entirely different worlds. I get asked constantly which one is the better fit, and the honest answer depends entirely on what kind of life you are looking for.
La Ventana: small, wind-driven, close-knit
La Ventana is built around the water — kiteboarding, wing foiling, and parawinging by day, a tight community by night. Amenities are limited by design: a handful of restaurants, small markets, and a slower pace than almost anywhere else in the region. It rewards people who want a genuinely small-town, outdoor-focused life.
La Paz: a real city with everything you need
La Paz offers hospitals, full grocery stores, an airport, restaurants for every mood, and a real urban rhythm along the Malecón. It is still relaxed by North American standards, but it does not require the same trade-offs La Ventana does.
A lot of people end up choosing both
Many of my clients solve this by basing themselves in La Paz and treating La Ventana as a regular weekend or wind-season destination — sometimes buying a smaller second property there specifically for that purpose. It is one of the advantages of this being a single, connected region rather than two isolated markets.
